OSSIEC Sets Up High-Level Verification Committee Ahead of Local Government Elections
The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has established a high-level verification committee to verify the credentials and documents submitted by nominated candidates for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
According to a statement signed by Omoyemi Badru, Press Secretary to the OSSIEC Chairman, the committee is chaired by Alhaji Abdul-lateef Olayanju, a retired mathematician and former staff of the National Population Commission (NPC).
Olayanju, who hails from Osogbo, will lead a team of experienced professionals to ensure that all candidates meet the required qualifications and standards for the elections.
The committee's secretary is Ikire-born Mrs. Iyabo Olaniyi, a seasoned legal practitioner with over 15 years of experience.
Other members of the committee include Mr. Samson Abiola Amure, a retired local government staff from Ilesa; Mrs. Hanifat Adenike Adediran, a scientist from Ile-Ife; and Mrs. Olubisi Temitope Onifade, a graduate of English Language from Boluwaduro.
Also on the committee are Mr. Tajudeen Badejoko, a retired Deputy State Auditor-General from Ikire; Mrs. Abolaji Atolagbe, a staff of Osun State Judiciary from Ila; and Mr. Adebayo Wasiu, a retired Zonal Inspector of Education from Iwo.
Mrs. Rofiyat Bayonle Babatunde from Ikirun and Hamzat Wasiu Olajide from Ifon in Orolu local government are also members of the committee.
Abisola Ariwodola will represent the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)/National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) on the committee, while representatives of Osun Internal Revenue Services (OIRS) will also be part of the committee.
The committee is expected to be inaugurated at a sooner date to be announced by the Chairman of the Commission.
The establishment of the verification committee is a significant step towards ensuring the integrity and credibility of the forthcoming local government elections in Osun State.
