NSCDC Sounds Alarm on Rising Child Kidnappings in Osun State, Urges Parents to Prioritize Safety

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State Command has raised concerns over the increasing cases of child kidnappings in the state. Commandant Michael Adaralewa Ph.D. has appealed to parents to be vigilant and ensure the safety of their children, especially during the holiday period.

According to the NSCDC, three cases of child kidnapping have been reported in August alone, with suspects apprehended in connection with the crimes. The command is working tirelessly with other agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. 

In one of the cases, a one-year-old baby was kidnapped in Osunjela, Osun State, by a woman known as Tawa, who was introduced to the baby's mother by a family friend. Tawa had offered to learn bag-making from the mother and was trusted with the baby's care.

However, Tawa kidnapped the baby and was later apprehended by the NSCDC. The command is still investigating the motive behind the kidnapping.

In another case, a three-year-old child went missing in Ifesowapo Street, Owode, Osogbo, Osun State. The child was last seen playing in a shop and has not been found since.

Furthermore, a five-month-old baby was kidnapped in Agbeye town, Odo-Otin local government of Osun state, while the mother was gathering firewood. The baby was left under a shade of trees, and by the time the mother returned, the baby was gone.

The NSCDC is urging parents to be cautious and ensure the safety of their children, especially during this holiday period. Commandant Adaralewa emphasized that children are special gifts from God and the future of the country.

The command is also advising artisans and employers to do proper profiling of those they employ to work for them. This will help prevent criminals from taking advantage of trusting parents.

The NSCDC is working hard to ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are brought to justice. Parents are urged to report any suspicious activities or missing children to the authorities immediately.
