The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 36-year-old robbery suspect, Amos Daniel, who stunned his congregation by testifying about God’s provision with a stolen vehicle. 

Daniel admitted to stealing his employer’s car on his first day as a driver, later dedicating the vehicle in church during a testimony.

In a separate incident, the police also paraded two dismissed soldiers, Akeem Suleiman and Abdulau Mohammed, alongside two civilian accomplices, for their involvement in a robbery gang. 

The gang, notorious for operating in military gear, targeted motorists across Lagos, often carrying out their crimes at gunpoint.

According to SP Benjamin Hudenyin, the command’s spokesman, the tactical team based in Surulere successfully dismantled the gang responsible for multiple vehicle snatching incidents. 

“Two of them are dismissed soldiers, one in 2014 and the other in 2017. They conducted their operations using full military attire,” Hudenyin revealed during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

The police also apprehended Thankgod Kesh-David, a 25-year-old who posed as a roadside mechanic to deceive motorists, only to abscond with their vehicles after purported repairs.

Regarding Daniel’s case, SP Benjamin Hudenyin emphasized the importance of thorough background checks when hiring staff. 

“Employers must exercise due diligence and conduct background checks to prevent incidents like these,” he stated. 

He further advised utilizing resources such as the Central Criminal Registry at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Alagbon for verification.

Daniel, during his interaction with journalists, confessed, “I stole my madam’s Lexus car and took it to the church to testify that God has blessed me. I intended to use it for Uber and use the proceeds to pay my debt.”

Dismissed soldier Suleiman admitted to his involvement in the robbery operations, claiming they targeted vehicles randomly in the Ajah area of Lagos using a local firearm. “We never killed our victims,” he clarified.

All suspects are set to face charges in court for their respective crimes, as investigations continue into their criminal activities across Lagos.
