16 days Activism Osun NAWOJ Calls On Govt To Invest in Women And Girls, Give Protection Against Violence

Osun Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ has added its voice to 16-days activism campaign, by calling on the governments to invest in women and girls, and accelerate actions to end gender-based violence & femicide which seem to be on the increase in the country.

This was disclosed in a release by the state Chairperson Mrs Motunrayo Ayegbayo, and the Secretary Comrade Abisola Ariwodola in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of violence against women and girls.

The release stated that it is important for the government to provide necessity for basic human right, adding that intentionally killing women based on gender, has reached epidemic proportions across Nigeria; as one in three women globally (736 million) have been subjected to physical and/or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime since the age of 15, according to UN WOMEN.

It frowned at the increase of violence against women and girls, across state of the federation, and called for actions of prevention, provision of services, access to justice and coordination monitoring and evaluation of issues concerning the female gender.

Similarly NAWOJ calls on stakeholders to protect the women and girls in the society, by creating a world free of violence and femicide, adding that it is important that there should be elimination of all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation.

It is our collective duty to change the narrative of violence against the women and girls in our society and world at large, - the statement added.
