Osun Governor Commends Federal Government and NEMA for Aid to 2022 Flood Victims and Vulnerable Individuals

Senator Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State, has expressed his appreciation to the Federal government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for their dedicated efforts in providing relief to the victims of the 2022 flood and vulnerable individuals in the state through the Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI) program.

The Governor conveyed his gratitude during the official launch event held at the Osun State Emergency Management Agency warehouse located along Development Center Abere. Represented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, the Governor noted that this marks the commencement of the first phase of assistance following the enumeration exercise conducted by NEMA in May of the previous year.

He emphasized that the SNELEI program is specifically designed to offer immediate and ongoing support to flood victims and vulnerable individuals, encompassing financial aid, food, and assistance to help the affected people rebuild their lives.

In his introductory remarks, Mr. Mustapha Habib Ahmed, the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), represented by the Supervisor of the SNELEI program in Osun, Mr. Yohanna Aliyu, stressed that based on joint assessments conducted by NEMA and OSEMA, the federal government approved this special intervention to aid flood victims and vulnerable individuals across the country in their journey towards normalcy. Mr. Aliyu also mentioned that a total of 5,305 households were identified and are expected to benefit from this special intervention. These households will receive sewing machines, grinding machines, farm inputs, and food items.

The General Manager of the Osun State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Jide Falade, expressed his appreciation to both the federal and state governments for their unwavering support provided to the vulnerable individuals and the flood victims of 2022. He also urged the beneficiaries not to sell their allocated items but to use them for their intended purposes. Mr. Falade then outlined the four categories of items to be distributed, which include livelihood items, agricultural items, food items, and non-food items.

One of the beneficiaries of the program from Ede North, Miss Aderinwa Blessing, extended her gratitude to the federal government, NEMA, and the state government for their support to the vulnerable individuals and flood victims in the state, despite the economic challenges in the country.
