APC National Secretary Speaks on Electoral Security Accountability at High Level Symposium

Distinguished Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru PhD, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), served as a Speaker at the High Level Symposium on Electoral Security hosted by Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) with support from USAID and The Palladium Group. The focus of the conversation at the Symposium was electoral security accountability of the National Electoral Offences Commission Bill, and Senator Ajibola Basiru provided valuable insights and perspectives on the topic.
In his remarks, Senator Ajibola Basiru emphasized the importance of electoral security in ensuring free and fair elections. He also stressed the need for accountability mechanisms to be in place to hold those responsible for electoral offenses to account.

“Electoral security is essential for the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections,” Senator Ajibola Basiru said. “The National Electoral Offences Commission Bill is a critical piece of legislation that will help to ensure accountability in the electoral process if properly scrutinized and reviewed.”

Senator Ajibola Basiru also spoke about the APC’s commitment to building a new generation of political leaders. He announced that the party is working on establishing an institute to provide research and capacity building opportunities for young politicians.

“We’re working on an institute to be a research and capacity building organization for building young politicians and be able to highlight and discuss critical issues that we enhance governance and development of our people,” Senator Ajibola Basiru said. “We want to make politics to be attractive, intellectuals, professionals and artisans who know what they’re doing must be able to get involved in politics.”

The APC National Secretary concluded by calling on Nigerians with bright ideas about governance to join political parties and get involved in the political process.

“I want to enjoin Nigerians with bright ideas about governance to not just do it on the sidelines. Try to join political parties so that we can have the best,” Senator Ajibola Basiru said.

The APC is the ruling party in Nigeria. Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru is a lawyer and politician who holds a Ph.D in law. He has served as a Commissioner for 8 years, a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now the National Secretary of the APC. 

The Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) is a non-profit organization that works to promote democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
