Women Inclusion In Governance: Osun NAWOJ Advocates To Speaker Egbedun ...as OSHA Speaker declares support to journalists

Osun Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ has taken its Advocacy on Women Inclusion in governance to the Speaker Osun state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adewale Egbedun.

The association also congratulated Speaker Egbedun on his election victory and emergence as the Speaker of the 8th Assembly of the legislative arm of Osun government.

This is as the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Adewale Egbedun declares his support to the women journalists, saying that "for any society to move in geometric direction Journalists welfare package must be prioritized."

The Executives of the Women Journalists in the state, took the advocacy to the speaker following the announcement of the names of nominees for the position of commissioners by Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, where there were only two women out of the 25 names.

The Speaker who commended the Osun Women journalists for their objectives, expressed his flair women development and also declared the State House of Assembly leadership readiness to partner with the State Nawoj towards actualizing the Association objectives.

Rt Hon Adewale Egbedun used the medium of courtesy call to his office to appeal to the female and other journalists in the state for the support of the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Giving an insight on unavailability of women honorables in the present house of assembly, he announced that the advocacy is noted and the concern will made known to the government for further improvement on women inclusion, through future appointment.

Earlier, in her opening remarks, the Osun NAWOJ Chairperson, Mrs Motunrayo Ayegbayo highlighted several achievements of NAWOJ, called on the public and government to make priority the wellbeing of children, women, persons with disability PWDs, and projection of government policies and advocacy on women representation.

Ayegbayo on behalf of its executives and members of Osun NAWOJ applauded the youthfulness and vibrant leadership of Honourable Adewale Egbedun led 8th assembly, she added that the association would partner and support the state parliament.

She pointed out that no women representative at the national house of assembly, as well as the state house of assembly, and only two among the present commissioner nominees, this is not encouraging, the government can do better, she stated.

She also requested that the associations prayer on women inclusion in government under the government of Governor Ademola Adeleke be improved on on line with the 35-percent affirmative guideline, adding that people are concerned and all eyes are on Osun state about women in governance through election or appointment.
