Osun NAWOJ Tasks Govt, Stakeholders on Inclusion/Access to Innovation Technology ...Urge women to explore Innovation Science and Technology ICT...

Osun Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Osun NAWOJ has called on government and stakeholders to include and give women and girls access to Digitalization, Innovation and Technology as part of the objective for Gender Equality.

This was disclosed by the Osun state Chairperson Mrs Motunrayo Ayegbayo and the Secretary Comrade Abisola Ariwodola in commemoration of year 2023 International Women's Day.

Speaking on the theme: “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” highlighting the role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and developmental needs of women and girls, Osun NAWOJ stated that with the trend of innovation technology, it is important that women are included and given access in politics and to technology as well as measures that protects lives of the female gender.

According to the release, the world has gone digital and there are so many technology equipment in daily use including health wise, adding that innovation science and technology is life, it called on women to explore ICT, and the statement added that the use of the technology instrument will add value to women at workplace and to reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescents services when deployed widely.

Osun NAWOJ uses the opportunity to appreciate Osun government under the leadership of Governor Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke for recently digitalizing the state by signing the implementation of Innovation Technology ICT and Digital Economy as part of its 100-days in office activities, it emphasized women inclusion.

The Association reiterates its objective of Creating awareness about the digital gender divide, Advocating for policies and legal frameworks to keep women and girls safe and Promoting women’s participation in science, technology, and ICTs, to ensure that disadvantaged and vulnerable women and girls also benefit equitably from digital and technological innovations for their improved health and well-being.

It urge stakeholders—from governments and partners to civil society and citizens—to support country-driven and gender-sensitive approaches to close the existing digital gender divide and challenges, particularly through social media, to free them from online gender-based violence, including cyberstalking, sexual harassment, trafficking, and gross breaches of privacy.
