IWD: NULGE - Osun Women Wing Speaks Against Violence, Calls For Participation In Innovation And Technology ... Organizes Medical Check-Up for members

In commemoration of International Women's Day Celebration, the Osun Chapter, Women Wing of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE have spoken against violence on the women gender.

This is as the association called for women participation in Innovation and Technology, as a bane for development, and it organized medical checkup for its members across local governments in Osun state.

The disclosure was made by the NULGE President, Dr Nathaniel Ogungbanbe and the Osun NULGE Woman Leader, Comrade Wumi Oyetunji at the International Women's Day Celebration held at NULGE Secretariat in Osogbo the state capital.

Dr Ogungbanbe addressing the women described them as important to themselves, family society, state, country and the world at large, he maintained that no violence must be perpetrated against them.
Describing them as mother on nations, he called on stakeholders to protect the women and girls in the society, adding that it is part of the responsibility of men and those in relevant authorities to fulfil the obligation.

Similarly, the Deputy President, Osun state, Comrade Iyabo Olanrewaju described the world as incomplete without women, she hinged that women should be given equal opportunities as men professionally.

Also speaking on ending violence against Women and girls, she applauded Osun government for having laws protecting the female gender, urged stakeholders to apply the law whenever any act of violence is perpetrated against women and reported to appropriate quarters.

In her lecture titled, "Mental Health of a Woman", Dr Adeola Aderinwale described health as state of  complete wellbeing of humans, she added that the emotional and mental health of a woman is important and multifaceted.

Stressing that a woman's mental health is influenced by biological and social factors, she urged them to pay attention to their health which she said is also affected by physiological changes that have to do with age.

Dr Aderinwale commended the Osun NULGE Women Wing leadership for organizing medical checkup for its members, adding that knowing ones status is key to having a healthy life free of any health issue.

Earlier in her welcome address, listing the advantages of Science, Innovation and Technology, Osun NULGE Woman Leader Comrade Wumi Oyetunji pointed out the discovery that "men in our society are already into innovations and technology more than the women, adding that women involvement in Information Communication Technology, ICT is low compared to that of men.

Comrade Oyetunji affirming that Technology has become critical to everyday lives, said with online experiences and opportunities, said It is also important for women to develop themselves across the wide range of areas such as online education, access to formal and informal learning among others.

Speaking further she said, "We all have equal right as men to access and explore the internet, We should not limit ourselves to use of Technology, but we can with innovation bring fresh approach and offer unique perspectives, to face challenges and solve problems".

Oyetunji who is also the SouthWest Secretary NULGE Women Committee, encouraged women at the program to get involved in innovation and technology at work and relevant places, saying that "this will create a conducive and enabling environment for more women, added that in workforce, technology is termed important and offers opportunities, and she also charged the women to empower their female children into Science, Innovation and Technology world in order to be able to compete with their male counterparts".

"The world is going digital, and though there is gender divide since women are digital disadvantaged, when it comes to digital adoption women have lower interest for the use of technology that men, nonetheless, let's thrive on the platform and upgrade ourselves in the area of innovation and technology so as not to feel neglected or brushed aside in the society, as we contribute our quota to national development, she stated".

Highlight of the 2023 International Women's Day Celebration was the Medical Check-Up for Osun NULGE Women which includes blood pressure, height, weight checkup among other symptoms, conducted by professional health practitioners.
