PWD: EMPOWER PROJECT Embarks On Communication And Social Mobilization

Empower Project, a program of Society For Life Changers And Good Parental Care SoLife, sponsored by  (UN-Women) and United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, for the last quarter of the project embarked on Communication And Social Mobilization for Women and Girls With Disability.

The Communication And Social Mobilization programme held in selected local governments areas in Osun and Kwara states respectively, to create awareness on Ending Violence Against Women And Girls With Disability EVAW/G.

Prior the sensitization of the public, advocacy was conducted on stakeholders at the selected locations, and emphasis was made on the objective of the activity to create awareness and more community support towards Ending Violence Against Women And Girls With Disability.

The Program Manager, Mrs Adeola Falana addressing the stakeholders on behalf of the Empower Project maintained that there should be no action of violence against the target beneficiaries. 

The sensitization program was taken to landmark areas of the local governments such as market places, motor parks, stadium and other busy routes among others, with the Women and young girls with Disability flagging banners and posters, sharing fliers and voicing out to the public that physical, emotional and economic violence should be stopped completely against the disability category.

The Women And Girls clusters of Persons With Disability (PWDs), which includes the spinal cord disabled, Virtual impaired, Deaf and Dumb among others, voiced to the public that there are Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, which captured the Persons With Disability protecting them, hence anyone who contravenes the law will face the wrath of the law.

The women leaders for Women with disabilities in the various local governments appreciated Empower Project for their efforts, taken to ensure that the governments domesticate the VAPP Law, their stated their interest to Empower Project to extend their life saving intervention program to the women disability community other parts of the various states.

Speaking further, they added that the project intervention program which also features radio and television programmes have rescued lots of women and girls with Disability from violence, it have informed the public and to a large extended protected the women and girls with disability who mostly fall victims to life issues such as assault, rape, molestation, circumcision among others.
