HFDI: STAR Project Starts Learning Hub, Farm Project, Gives Tom-Brown in Akwa Ibom

Hope For Family Development Initiative HFDI, Society Tackling AIDS through Rights(STAR) project begins Learning Hub for children in Ikot Ebo community, Etinan among others in Akwa Ibom state.

The children who are 53 in number enrolled in classes, started learning computer training, system maintenance, among others in the holiday.

HFDI in its objective of humanitarian intervention to the community offers its support to keep the hub running, the organization and an interested partner CCCRN, donated items such as whiteboard, packs of writing marker, Scrabble and writing materials alongside provision of data bundle which will last during the two months holiday to the hub and some stakeholders were on ground to receive the items.

At the closing ceremony of the first phase of the Education/Learning Hub, the programme Manager Tom Isaiah Samuel said the outcome shows the trained children become versed in the basics of computer software and hardware, Parents and other stakeholders including NiceNdem Foundation who collaborated with HFDI on the program from inception were impressed.

As a show of gratitude, donations of more writing materials and necessity came from parents and other stakeholders who pledged the continuity of the training in different schools and during future school holidays.

This is as the Society Tackling AIDS through Rights (STAR) also started Farm project in selected local governments, where discussion was made on the application of fertilizer for the cassava plants, knowledge about limiting or reducing challenges met during the first planting phase and a way forward for the second planting was also addresed.

According to the Senior Program Officer, Uchenna Uwaomo, home gardening support of improved seedlings were given to beneficiaries of the project across the 3 local governments areas, which includes: Etinan, Nsitubuim and Mkpatenin.

HFDI also advocated for the planting of seedlings of higher yields, more nutritional, drought and climate resilient seedlings that will meet and boost the nutrition needs of house holds. Seedlings of waterleaf, okra, pepper, and cucumber where distributed to various households and the caregivers were encouraged to plant these seedlings around their homes.

Similarly, Tom Brown an health booster beverage for malnourished children was shared to located malnourished Households at Ikot Ewang in Nsit Ubium LGA, Akwa Ibom State. 

The organization through its Community Mobilization Officer, Uche Eleodimou also gave sensitization on creation and how to prepare Tom-Brown for the benefits of the malnourished children in various households of the community.

This gesture was appreciated by the children's caregivers who thanked Hope For Family Development Initiatives, HFDI for their benevolence and support towards the beneficiaries, the caregivers promised to play their part of caring for the malnourished children in building up their blood.

Nutrition assessment on agility of malnourished children were also carried out on targeted children and some of the captured children who needed medical attention were sent to the general hospital for further medical examinations or Laboratory tests.

In his remarks, the Executive Director of Hope For Family Development Initiatives HFDI, Ambassador Aremu Stephen Akinyele lauded the community for accepting the necessary intervention program.

He added that the organization will continue to ensure that good humanitarian service delivery targeted to save lives of children and other target beneficiaries are maintained, adding that this is made possible with the support of its vision oriented sponsors.
