Osun LG Election: GOF Charges Political Parties on Participation

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Gboyega Oyetola Foundation, GOF has charged all political parties in Osun State to take advantage of the current opportunity to participate in the forthcoming Local Government Council election in the state.

According to a statement issued and signed by the Media Department of the Foundation and made available to the media in Osogbo, the state capital on Monday, the forthcoming council polls is a confirmation of growth of democracy in the state and the nation at large.

The Foundation therefore admonished all registered political parties with presence in the state to take advantage of the window of opportunity offered by the council poll to further strengthen their base in the state.

"The forthcoming council election timetable as announced by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, is a great window of opportunity for political parties with chapters in the state to strengthen their base through participation," the Foundation stressed.

The GOF further charged the state electoral umpire to continue remaining impartial in the discharge of its primary responsibility of conducting council polls, which results would be acceptable to all contestants.

"It must be noted by the state electoral umpire that all eyes are currently focused on its leadership and its operations.

"Therefore, the body must rise far above being partisan and avoid acts that are capable of tarnishing its image among its peers across the country," GOF adviced.

The statement further charged all stakeholders in the council polls to adhere strictly to all the OSSIEC election guidelines and shun acts capable of truncating the current peace across the state.

The GOF, as an NGO, also used the opportunity to reiterate its commitment to good governance, not only in the state but across the country.

"The Foundation has commitment to good governance as one of its cardinal objectives.

"We are therefore positioned holding this very dear in all our operations, as it remains the foundation for the overall development of the larger society," the Foundation stressed further.
