Primary Election Violence: Prince Awofisayo Calls for Peace

A prominent chieftain of the ruling-All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and current Chairman of Gboyega Oyetola Foundation, GOF, Prince Felix Adeyemi Awofisayo has called on all individuals alleged to be masterminds of violence that characterised yesterday's House of Assembly primaries in Ile-Ife to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign in the ancient town.

This was contained in a press statement issued on his behalf by his media team while reacting to the orgy of violence that occurred during the party primaries held yesterday in Ile-Ife.

According to Prince Awofisayo, election should not be a do-or-die affair, it is only an avenue to offer services for the common good of the society.

Speaking further on the incident, the Ile-Ife-born Prince affirmed that Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the ruling-APC in the state are committed to ensuring the current peaceful co-existence among the various residents of the state.

"Election into political offices should not be seen as a do-or-die affair, but rather as an avenue to offer services to the people in the overall interest of the society," Prince Awofisayo stressed.

He therefore admonished all party members to abide by all the conditionalities stipulated in the recently-signed Peace Accord.

Speaking further on the incident, the State APC Elders' Caucus member called the attention of the party members to the fact that such action from members of the ruling party portrays the party to the whole in bad light.

"Such violence during a party primary does not portray the party in positive light in the eyes of the voting public. Moreso when we have a crucial election coming up in July," Prince Awofisayo observed.

 He however charged all party members on the need to remain peaceful in all their conducts, while assuring them that everybody's interest would be protected once Governor Oyetola emerges victorious after the July 16 governorship poll.
