A Method APC Is Considering To Use That May Make Tinubu, Others To Lose Presidential Ticket

Many lessons were learnt from the just concluded national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which took place towards the end of last month. 

A good number of contenders lost out during that convention not because they were not popular to win if the election held but because no election/voting took place for those posts. Winners simply emerged through a method known as consensus which has been generating serious controversy.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu was favoured to emerge the APC National Chairman because he had the strong backing of President Muhammadu Buhari. 

Others contender had the backing of either one or more Governors and strong people in the party. That was why they won their more popular opponents. 

In view of the above, a frontline contender and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and others such as Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Senator Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and some other contenders may lose out if APC goes ahead to use the consensus option.

According to Daily Trust, the party has hinted that it is considering to adopt the consensus method to chose its presidential candidate for the 2023 election. Recently, after a meeting between Tinubu and APC Governors in Abuja, the Chairman of APC Governors Forum, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, publicly stated that the party is considering to use consensus method.

Another reason why the consensus method may be used by APC is because some of the bigwigs believe that it worked well for the party during their national convention. Many influential or popular contenders were made to have no other option than to step down for the preferred aspirant whose name made it to the Unity List.

With that, some tough opponents especially those who were in the race for APC National Chairman were edged out of the way. It was reported that Tinubu's loyalists have been kicking against the consensus option, but if the consensus method is used against all odds, then some of the tough contenders may lose out.
