Senator Dr Ajibola Basiru representing Osun central has expressed his support to the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola by empowering and distributing agricultural tools, equipments and quality seeds to farmers in Osun central senatorial district.
This is as Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola described him as a competent, worthy ambassador and representative of his constituents at the red chamber.
This revelations were made at the empowerment and distribution of agricultural tools, equipments and quality seeds to farmers in Osun central senatorial district, towards benefits of food security and banishment of hunger from Osun, held at Senator Ajibola Basiru Constituency office in Osogbo the state capital.
According to the Senator who is also the Senate Spokesperson, empowerment are potent means of making people to have power and control over their own lives, an act which he described as an age long tradition of progressives to give people capacity building initiatives.
He pointed out that "the beneficiaries will receive farming materials worth fifty million naira for products such as quality maize seeds with high germination percentage, he added that herbicides distributed are also effective with the chemical weed control for integrated weed management, alongside items such as knapsack sprayers, wheelbarrows, cutlasses among others to over one thousand farmers drawn from the ten local governments of the Osun Central district".
Thanking Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for providing an enabling environment as give back to the people of the constituents, Senator Basiru stated that "the governments support has been commendable hence the encouragement and progress recorded in year 2021 over trainings and capacity building for young farmers on cassava value chain processing and offtake, training of farmers on rudiments of fish production, processing, packaging and marketing, formulation of poultry and snail feeds, skill acquisition for entrepreneurs on production and improved management practices of maize and cashew seeds among others".
The Osun Central representative highlighted other projects in the district as "provision of hand-pump boreholes, provision of 16 solar powered boreholes, facilitation of four units of transformers, empowerment materials such as grinding machines, sewing machines, water pumps, tricycles, motorcycles and furgarnizing machines, he also listed facilitation of construction of classroom blocks in schools in the district as well as grading and rehabilitation of roads, provision of four hundred and sixty three solar powered street lights and construction of 1000 seater Agriculture Entrepreneur training center".
Dr Basiru used the medium to "commend the Federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari for according food production the necessary boost through various incentives to farmers, he also applauded Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for giving Osun people, particularly the farmers agreeable environment, and for his support and encouragement for him to function in his capacity as Senator and Spokesperson in the Senate".
Appreciating Osun cabinet, dignitaries and people of Osun central for their support, he stated that for year 2021, one billion and five hundred million naira was expended to surge in economic activities in Osun state.
In his address, the number one citizen of Osun state, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola commended Senator Dr Ajibola Basiru for constantly supporting and developing people of Osun Central with various empowerment programmes embarked upon from year 2019 to date despite the pandemic challenges.
Governor Oyetola affirmed that "Senator Basiru has proved beyond reasonable doubt that he is a competent and worthy representative of his constituents, he appreciated the senator for representing and making Osun proud at the red chamber, he described the empowerment program as a welcome addition to economic transformation initiative under agriculture, tourism and mining rainbow".
The Governor stated that when talking about the potentials of the state, "it is also a way of making the farmers productive and transforming them into employers of labour, alongside the empowerment window of the state government agenda which have empowered about 18,000 youths, provided credit and loans as well as provision of agricultural facilities to farmers and other empowerment".
According to Governor Oyetola, "Ours is a people oriented and development focus administration, whose strategy is to explore potentials, facilitates opportunities and attract investments through partners and well meaning citizens"
The Governor used the medium to "call on the elected representatives across the senatorial districts, constituencies and wards to be part of the strategy to engage in empowerment programs across sectors for equitable and sustainable development in Osun".
He urged the beneficiaries of the agriculture empowerment program to make judicious use of the facilities and materials provided, and to continue to reciprocate the gesture of Senator Ajibola Basiru to achieve mutual interest as he delivers democratic and qualitative representation.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Food Security and Agriculture, Mr Adedayo Adewole lauded the empowerment program of Osun farmers by Senator Ajibola Basiru, he described it as a booster for the farmers in Osun.
Similarly, he pointed out that the program is a support to the government of Adegboyega Oyetola for farmers and the people in general and he urged the beneficiary to use the empowerment materials for the main objective of farming.
