Osun NIESV Advocates to Government on Inclusion for Development.... inaugurates 7th Chairman and Executive Committee......calls on government to create Surveyor General Office, solidify synergy...

The Osun branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, NIESV has called out to Osun government under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to include the professional body in its governance, with target towards development: economically, human capital and infrastructure-wise.


The newly inaugurated Osun state Chairman, ESV Adekunle Adedoye, M.Tech, ANIVS, RSV made this known in his speech during the inauguration as the 7th Chairman alongside the Executive Committee of the state branch, held at the NIESV House in Osogbo.
ESV Adedoye who appreciated the members of the professional body for electing him into office, also thanked Osun government and the ministry of Lands and physical planning for infrastructural development done so far in the state, and for their listening hears always.


He appealed to the government to recognize and appreciate Estate Surveying and Valuation as a panacea for effective land administration and income generation in Osun state, he urged the government to address the issue of inadequate consultation and inclusion of professional estate surveyors and valuers in governance, as well as inadequate professional staff in the ministry of lands and physical planning in Osun.


The Osun NIESV Chairman particularly called on the government to create the  office of Estate Surveyor General, added that synergy between the government and the professional body must be solidifed to close wastage and end slow pace of economic growth, he also hinged that the Estate Surveyors and Valuers be included in Osun state Rent Tribunal.
Speaking further, he pointed out that there are inadequate professional lecturers in the department of Estate Management and Valuation both on Osun state college of Technology EsaOke and Osun state polytechnic Iree, he called on government to give approval for appointment of professional lecturers into the institutions.

ESV Adekunle Adedoye who reiterated that leadership is about sharing visions and responsibilities assured his professional body that his executive will remain committed to the objective of the body, said training and retraining through workshops would be regular for the development of the profession towards public interest.

The National President of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors and Valuers NIESV, ESV Emmanuel Okas Wike FINVS, IRV, FMP, RWA congratulated Osun chapter of the association for electing worthy and hardworking executive who are trail blazers as their executive.

The President who was represented by the Second vice president ESV Victor Adekunle Alonge FNIVS urged all members of the institution to support the tenure of ESV Adekunle Adedoye and his team, he prayed for a successful office and told the branch to continue making impact in the state and at the national level.

The guest speaker ESV Adedotun Bamigbola FNIVS, FRICS in his lecture tagged "The Professional Institution and the government, the need for synergy said that the government and its agencies and the public, largely determines the public perception of the 
profession or its body. 

He pointed out that the importance of Real Estate to the growth and sustenance of a state cannot be over-emphasized, he said on the average, the Real Estate sector contributes 6.4% to Nigeria’s 
GDP in Q4 2020 according to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS), after the likes of the 
Agricultural sector, Trade sector and Oil & Gas sector. 


Bamigbola said that Government and professional institutions, particularly NIESV, should be working together for the public 
interest. That is what both entities have sown to do, howbeit, separately, he buttressed that the lack of synergy and 
continuous working relationship between government and professional institutions or 
professionals has continuously contributed to the slow pace of development in various 
sectors of the economy and our development as a people. This is evident in most states of 
the federation. 


According to him, this has created a situation in which it mostly appears that professional
institutions (who should be apolitical and unbiased in their professional calling) have to be on 
the side of the ruling party to be heard when they provide advisory on issues relating to their 
profession as it may affect the public interest.


"If we are to truly stop the leakage, as government has always said, then government needs to 
quickly engage all professionals at their institution’s level, especially in the built-environment, 
in a development think-tank for long-term development goals. This is what will be true legacy 
and this is what we urge government at all levels to do". 


With particular reference to Estate Surveying and Valuation, he called on Osun state government to collaborate with Nigerian Institution of Surveyors and Estate Valuers 
NIESV, for synergy in development:
for Valuable Professional Advisory - Engaging NIESV and its members to ensure that the state can enjoy the best available professional advises in Valuation, Land 
Administration policies, Property Taxation, Project and City Development, Real Estate Asset Management among others.


He said part of NIESV objective is Outreach to the People, as a go-between for government and the people. Based on agreed parameters and ethics, the professional institution can communicate government’s policies to the people without the toga of overlords, which a government official might not be able to avoid because of the 
paraphernalia of office.


He advocated Local Content Development in ensuring that the states develop further 
professionals in the state to develop improved capacity, as well as Job Creation by engaging Estate Surveyors and Valuers with a widespread through the 
institution will be better job creation through government to ensure government achieve part of its goal in job creation. 


The state can engage ESVARBON to assist in local real estate practice regulation based on extant federal laws. The State of Osun 
can take the lead in this to protect the public interest, he stated.


Highlight of the Osun NIESV investiture of 7th Chairman and executive committee was the handing over of mantle of leadership by the outgoing chairman ESV Segun Fasiku to the Adedoye led executive, as well as the award presentation to fellows of the institution such as ESV Ibukun Efuntayo, ESV Emmanuel Mark, ESV Prof Olatoye Ojo, ESV Diran Adetunji, ESV Bode Adediji, ESV Gboyega Fatimilehin, ESV Biyi Adesanya and late ESV Biodun Odeleye.
