APC Crisis Gets Messy as Youths Dissolve Caretaker Committee, Inaugurate ‘New Exco’

The crisis rocking the ruling APC on Monday, November 29, deepened as the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led committee was dissolved by Youths under the aegis of the Progressive Youth Movement inaugurated a factional caretaker committee led by Prince Mustapha Audu. 

The forum at a press conference also announced the party’s national convention has been fixed for February 26, 2022 - Amid the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, a parallel caretaker committee of Nigeria's ruling party has emerged in Abuja. We reports that the forum operating under the platform of the Progressive Youth Movement (PYM) announced Mustapha Audu as the chairman of the new caretaker team. APC youths have announced the dissolution of the party’s caretaker committee led by Yobe state governor, It was gathered that Mustapha is the son of the former governor of Kogi and a late chieftain of the party, Prince Abubakar Audu. 

According to Audu, a reconciliation committee would be put in place while announcing February 26, 2022, as the date for the party's national convention. The self-acclaimed chairman appealed to the party members to cooperate with the new interim national leadership to reform the ruling party. Yobe state governor reacts However, Governor Buni in a swift reaction to the development called for the arrest of Audu and his co-travellers for treasonable felony, The Guardian added. John Akpanudoedehe, the committee's secretary dismissed the action as “the felonious activities of a purported group.” 

The scribe said they are unknown to the party, its structure or as a registered support group and are therefore non-existent. 

The APC deputy national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, on his part said the youths lacked the power to dissolve the Buni-led committee as they are not members of the National Executive Committee (NEC). ANPP, CPC bloc reportedly hijack APC Legit.ng previously reported that since the emergence of Buni as the caretaker chairman of APC those allegedly calling the shots in the party are close aides of the Yobe state governor. Buni's emergence is said to have strengthened the Congress for Progressives Congress (CPC) and All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) blocs within the party while sidelining the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) bloc. 

One Muritala Yakubu, a personal assistant and a powerful influential member of the Buni’s ‘kitchen cabinet’, the Chief of Staff, Abdullahi Gasuwa, and director organising, one Prof. Al-Mustapha Mednaer are practically in charge of party affairs. 

 DSS, Police take over APC national secretariat in Abuja In a related development, the entry and exit points of the APC's national secretariat, the security operatives including the Department of State Service (DSS) were on the location to forestall a possible breakdown of law and order. It was gathered that the officers were hired following reports of a planned protest by aggrieved members of the party, who were not in support of the leadership structure regarding the conduct of the just concluded ward, local government and state congresses.
