Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travels and Enjoy Quality Road Experience - Osun FRSC Charges road users...as Sector Command Flags off Ember Months Campaign...... Determines to reduce Road Safety Crashes...

The Osun state Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC has flagged off the EMBER Months Campaign to achieve zero road traffic crashes in the state.

This is as the Sector Command makes use of approaches yo reduce Road traffic crashes in order to safe lives of motorists and road users in Osun.

The Sector Commander RS.11.1 Osun Sector Command, Corps Commander Paul J. Okpe made this known at the flag off of the program with theme: Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travel and Enjoy Quality Road Experience, held at the former Ile-Ife toll gate in Ile-Ife Osun state, a place described as a significance location, a corridor of link between the South and the North.

He maintained that there is no doubt there is usual increase in vehicular movement towards the end of the year which in turn leads to high rate of Road Traffic crashes and fatalities arising from over-speeding, overloading, route violation, unlatched containers, use of phone while driving among other road traffic riles violations.

Okpe reiterated that the Osun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, in order to check the trend is stepping up the sensitization of the motoring public among other initiatives of public enlightenment to all stakeholders in nooks and crannies of the state.

He, on behalf of the command appreciated Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for the inauguration of the Osun State Road Safety Advisory Council SaRSAC and all stakeholders for the support towards making the road in the state safe for all to drive.

In his words as the Special Guest of Honor, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola reiterated its determination of placing premium on the lives of Osun citizens to avoid endless deaths through avoidable road traffic accidents.

Governor Oyetola represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon Lekan Badmus stated that research made it known that over-speeding by motorists and the influence of alcohol are the twin-root of road traffic accidents in ember months, he added that the important sensitization campaign by the Osun Command of the Road Safety is fitting.

He commended the sector command and stakeholders particularly, the road transport unions in the state for their cooperation, and he pledged continued measures to ensure safe roads in the state.

Highlighting the construction and rehabilitation of the state roads as not less than 500 kilometers of roads completed so far across the state, Governor Oyetola stated that his government also instituted security architecture that has placed the state on national mark in collaboration of both formal and informal agencies.

In his word, the Chairman Osun State Road Safety Advisory Council (SaRSAC), the Deputy Governor of Osun state, Mr Benedict Alabi represented by his Senior Special Assistant SSA Mr Sunkanmi Ajiboye stated that it is important that the road be kept safe in the crucial yulitide season.

He urged road traffic users to be extra careful in the ember months and beyond, by obeying Road Safety regulations and not to assume that the other driver knows how to drive or use the road during his driving.


In his goodwill message,the Zonal Commanding Officer Zone RS11.1 Osogbo, ACM Emmanuel Omotosho Abe said the ember months Campaign is an annual event which is symbolic and sustained over the years to ensure safe roads for motorists and other  road users.

He affirmed that the convergence of relevant stakeholders is to exchange ideas on preventing road traffic accidents synonymous with the ember months, as he appealed to stakeholders in works and transport sector to ensure road repairs particularly in the ember months for the safety of lives.

ACM Abe urged all to do the right thing, avoid road traffic offences, make use of the Federal Road Safety Corps safety tips, and particularly avoid night travels, he added that everyone should celebrate the yulitide season in peace and not create problem with bad driving and accident.

Speaking on behalf of the service chiefs in the state present at the Ember Months Campaign program, the Deputy Comptroller Nigeria Immigration Services, Mr O.O. Olajide drew attention to the motor parks across the state, he added that the heads of road unions association in the garages should partner Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA to curtail public transport drivers who indulge in taking Indian hemp.

He also added that the public transport drivers should be checked from loading passengers back yo back during the season, he maintained that the body need rest, hence the union must control how their drivers loads passengers without resting thereby endangering the lives of others.

Highlight of the year 2021 Ember Months Flag off Campaign of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC Osun Command was the cutting of ribbon to flag off the EMBER Months.

Other stakeholders at the FRSC Osun Sector Command flag off of year 2021 Ember Months include: Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps NSCDC, Nigeria Correctional Services, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Customs Services, Nigeria Drug and Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Federal Controller Works, Osun Internal Revenue Service OIRS, National Orientation Agency NOA, Special Marshals, Driving School Association of Nigeria, Osun Chapter and Road Safety Club.

Others are, Traditional Rulers in the zone, Vice Chancellor Obafemi Awolowo University, Vice Chancellor Adeleke University, National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW, Road Employers Association of Nigeria RTEAN, Allied Truck Transporters, among others.
