Osun NAWOJ Encourages Nursing Mothers' Family To Protect and Provide For Them

Breastfeeding of babies have been described as one of the most effective ways to ensure the health and survival of the child irrespective of the gender. 

To this end, nursing mothers are encouraged to breastfeed and improve the health of their babies by feeding them with the essential nutrients in the breastfmilk required for growth and development.

Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Osun Chapter made the disclosure in a statement by the Chairperson Mrs Motunrayo Ayegbayo and the Secretary Comrade Abisola Ariwodola on the commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week.

Osun NAWOJ reiterating that breastmilk is an ideal food for infants, said it is safe, clean and it acts as babies first vaccine which protects them against many common childhood illnesses.

The statement also added that breastfeeding of babies boosts their immune system, lowers infant mortality rate and their risk of developing infections, adding that it also enhances the cognitive function of the baby.

Speaking further on the World Breastfeeding Week, Osun NAWOJ said the theme, "Protect Breastfeeding: A Shared Responsibility", is a call to families of nursing mothers to feed them with necessary diets, which will boost their breastmilk and makes it extremely nutritious and healthy for the baby to grow and develop a healthy weight.

This is also a call to everyone to protect nursing mothers and the babies from hardship which could result to malnutrition or even mortality.

Nawoj thereby urge relatives of nursing mothers family as well as the society to support them in protecting and providing for the nursing mothers' who needs such support to nurture their babies with breastmilk, which the baby can have anytime, saying this is a priority to ensure that nursing mothers are well feed and not malnourished.
