Osun NAWOJ Advocates Against Child Labour

Nigerians have been charged to eliminate child labour and ensure that enabling environment are giving to the children appropriately.

This is as Osun Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ called out to stakeholders to also ensure that the impact of Covid-19 crisis does not reverse the years of progress of tackling the problem.

This was contained in a statement by the Osun NAWOJ Chairperson Mrs Motunrayo Ayegbayo and the Secretary Comrade Abisola Ariwodola on World Child Labour Day held in the state.

According to the statement aside from homes, 'governments and communities must curb the menace of child labour particularly in cocoa and artisanal gold mining sites in Osun, it also asked that the contractual agreement should indicate that no child should work on any part of the site in the state'.

Osun NAWOJ used the medium to reiterate its role as advocate of elimination of child labour, it clamoured to other relevant stakeholders to work towards the agenda of eliminating child labour by year 2025.

Towards this end it declared partnership with Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Conjunction with International Labour Organization (ILO) and other relevant agencies to ensure that the rights of children are protected and they are saved from any form of child labour.
