Osun: APC Members Protest Against Caretaker Nominees At Assemble Complex As youths set bonfire in front of Elders Concil Chairman’ house over removal of caretaker nominee

Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Osun State on Monday stormed the State House of Assembly to express their grievances over the names of caretaker committee members announced last week. 

It will be recalled that the House of Assembly during a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, last week announced names of caretaker committee chairmen and members across the 68 local government areas and local council development areas.

The list was sent to the House by the Governor, Gboyega Oyetola Of the state on Thursday.

However, some names were stepped down on the list due to what insiders refered to as protest from lawmakers representing those constituencies.

Reactions have continued to trail the names announced and those stepped down by the house. More noticeably among those stepped down are Olayanju Kolapo and Bunmi Obeisun of Ejigbo west LCDA and Oriade LGA respectively.

On Monday, members of the party specifically from Iwo local government stormed the assembly complex to protest against nomination announced by the Speaker.

The protesters were armed with placards all calling the Assembly to reverse the announcement of Ramon Lawal of Iwo East and Babatunde Ologbuuru of Iwo West.

They protesters saw the nomination of Ologburu, a former member of the Social Democratic Party, who followed Senator Iyiola Omisore into the party, as a slap on the faces of those who worked for the emergence of Oyetola in the area.

Speaking with our Correspondent on the condition of anonymity, a member of the party said the protest was to call the attention of Governor Oyetola to the development in Iwo land and how it can affect his second term bid.

“The nomination is a slap on all of us in Iwo APC. Two of the three chairmen are not members of our party. They are people with who just returned to our party after the Governor had been elected. We are calling on the assembly to immediately reverse those announcements in the interest of our party.”

“Why would someone who has nothing to show for three years be returned when we have several capable hands? The protester enquired.

Another party members m who spoke with InsightMedia via telephone alleged Amidu Tadese, who is the Commissioner for Water Resources, as the orchestrator of the crisis rocking the party in Iwo.

According to our him, Tadese joined the APC from the People’s Democratic Party a week to the election and was compensated by Governor Oyetola against the wish of those who worked tirelessly for his elections. He was alleged of being behind the nomination of unpopular persons as chairmen in the area.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kunle Alabi said the protest is not new, adding that the House is on top of the situation.

Alabi said the protest is a fundamental right of all the party members and the House is working to find solutions to the matter.

“Definitely some names were stepped down for reconciliation. The reconciliation process is ongoing. The protest is not new and it’s their fundamental right. This is why they have Representatives here. The House will work on it.” Alabi to us on phone.

Youths, mostly members of the All Progressives Congress in Ilobu, Irepodun local government area of Osun State have set bonfire in front of the residence of former Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of APC Elders Council, Engr. Sola Akinwunmi.

The louse, located at Kuelu area of the town, was stormed by the youth who were protesting alleged removal of name of the Caretaker committee secretary, Ademola Adesina popular known as Guduobe on the instruction of Akinwunmi.

Adesina was announced on Thursday along the caretaker committee chairman, Barrister Adegoke Ogunsola and other members.

We gathered that Adesina was informed of the removal of his name by a Commissioner in the State, who’s familiar with the development.

Our Correspondent reported that youths who set up fires at the gate of the house were chanting different songs all telling the APC leader to rescind his decision to remove the name of Adesina.

The youths also called on Governor Gboyega Oyetola to ensure Adesina gets back to the list for the progress of the party in the area.
