Captain Cook Workers Arraigned For Stealing N1.9m Worth Of Bread

Three factory workers of Captain Cook Bakery in Osogbo were on Wednesday arraigned before an Osogbo magistrate’s court for allegedly stealing breads worth a sum of N1,951,050 from the company. 

The accused persons: Kehinde Odugbemi, Adeyemi Adetoyinbo and Ezekiel Akanbi, were brought before the court on a count charge of stealing.

According to the charge sheet obtained by us, the first defendant, Odugbemi stole 3,737 loaves of bread worth N1,019,050.

Adetoyinbo allegedly stole 1,485 loaves of bread worth N401, 000, while the third defendant, Akanbi stole 2,015 loaves of bread worth N501, 000 properties of Captain Cook Bakery.

The charge sheet disclosed that the defendants committed the alleged offence between the month of November and December 2020 at Osogbo.

The alleged offence, according to the Police, contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol.II Laws of Osun State, 2002.

But, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them. 

Defence counsel, Bose Dada, prayed the court to admit the defendants to bail on liberal terms. 

Dada urged the court to exercise discretionary power in favour of the accused persons, promising that reliable sureties would stand for them.

Police prosecutor, Mr. Taiwo Adegoke, urged the court only to release the accused persons on bail with conditions equivalent to the worth of the stolen breads.

The presiding magistrate, Adekanmi Adeyeba, admitted the defendants to bail in sum of N500, 000 and a surety each.

The case was adjourned till August 4, 2021 for mention.
