O'Widows, SoLife harps on Generation Equality in Osun...... Sensitizes Women on Convid 19 Safety tips

Dominion Women and Children Organization known as O'Widows, and Society For Life Changers and Good Parental Care (SoLife), joined the rest of the world to harp on Gender Equality towards realizing Women's rights on equal future.

The duo through collaboration held the 2020 International Women Day programme themed 'I am Gender Equality Realizing Rights for an Equal Future' at Ola-Oni Civic Center in Osogbo the state capital.

The Guest of Honor for the programme, the Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs Barrister Mrs Olubukola Olaboopo charged women to improve on their skillls, stated that Gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive and the government has recognized this.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Deputy Director Women department of the Ministry, Ms Lola Adewale, while hinting on women friendly policies that the State government of Osun embarked on, recognized and appreciated women who made impact in the state, nationally, and globally. 

In his address, the Chairman Board Of Trustees Society For Life Changers and Good Parental Care, Mr Aremu Stephen Akinyele stated that Women are important to sectors of development, hence gender equality is necessary for Global Commitment.

He applauded women for their determination, averred that women should not be deprived of their right, and urged all actors to shred off discrimination, and support women through empowerment and necessary strategies and sustainability.

He maintained that men and women have equal rights, adding that gender needs each other to make impact, that the world will be a better place for all when women and the Girl Child are not deprived of their right to Life, Education, Economy, Technology, Security, Access to Health Services among others.

In her remarks, the Chairperson O'Widows Association, Mrs Nike Owolabi said the association has the objectives of seeking support to take care of the needs of widows and their wards, through empowerment and provision of necessity to prevent the widows from suffering.

She added that the poverty alliviation and engagement made possible by individuals, Non-Governmental and corporate Organizations, as well as government helps to provide for the wards of the widow while assisting the youths among them to shun vices.

She commended Society For Life Changers and Good Parental Care for their constant support which erases tears from the eyes of the widows who have become part of the vulnerable in the society, and also applauded those who help vulnerable in the community.

At the program which had participants such as members of National Council of Women Society NCWS, Association of Fashion Designers, and Hairdressers association among others, she added that members of the Widows association are spread across the local governments and area office in Osun.

The SoLife Project Manager Mrs Adeola Falana also sensitized the Women on hand washing techniques and other necessary health measure against Coronavirus known as Covid 19 pandemic, which is a threat to people's health and lives in countries of the world.
