Violence Against Women, Children, not tolerable in Osun - Gov. Oyetola

Osun Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has declared that Violence against Women is not tolerable just as he gives support for "No to Violence Against Women and the Girl Child" in the state.

Governor Oyetola made this known on Wednesday at an 'Awareness Walk in Commemoration of the International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women, which commenced from Osun City stadium and terminated at the Nelson Mandela  Freedom Park, Osogbo the heart of the state capital, organized by the ministry of women, children and social affairs in collaboration with CDS National Youth Service Advocacy Group.

The Governor reiterated the determination of his administration to ensure that any assaulter of women and the Girl Child will be prosecuted appropriately, adding that women are important to every society and how they are treated reflect on the society.
Governor  Oyetola who was represented by his deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi added that Violence against Women is a criminal act with a severe penalty of imprisonment or option of hanging, depending on the severity of the violence.

He described Osun as a peaceful state and urged everyone to embrace the peace by living in harmony, adding that violence is not acceptable in the state, no matter the reason.
He commended all for supporting the clamour of Elimination of Violence against women and the Girl Child, adding that Osun has laws prohibiting Gender based violence, therefore,any defaulter will face the full wrath of the law.
Earlier in her welcome remarks, the Commissioner for Women, Children  and Social Affairs Bar (Mrs) Olubukola Olaboopo commended Governor Oyetola for being gender sensitive and for protecting women and children in the state.

She also stated that prosterity will judge every one's effort, adding that Violence must be shed off appropriately as Osun has stamped it into law and it's binding on all, that violence will not be accommodated in Osun.
