Filthy Enviroment : Market Gets 24 Hours Ultimatum To Clean Up Osogbo

Government of the State of OSUN has given traders of Igbona market in Osogbo 24hours altimatum to keep the market place  tidy or
risk closure.

The Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Sola Oladepo gave the aultimatum today while his team and members of the law enforcement officers  of Osun Waste Management Agency went round some market places in Osogbo  the State Capital.

Hon Oladepo who frawned at the level of filthiness and  attitude of  people at Igbona market, noted that it is a new dawn in the State of Osun, saying  government will no longer condole unhygienic sight in any of  its  market places.

He stated that during environmental sanitation hours, no market men or women should sit at home idle, adding that they have the responsibility of cleaning their shops and stalls to promote healthy living in the society.

He maintained that  marketers should desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the middle of the road, noting that marketers should keep their waste tidy and dispose them when refuse truck comes to their location.

Also speaking on the issue, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Rufus Oyegbile charged the association of market men and women in the state to cooperate with the present government and the environmental law enforcement agency to make Osun the neatess state in the Country.

Hon. Oyegbile asserted that it is unlawful for marketers in Owode and other market places  to sell on the roadsides.

According to him, marketers should not dump refuse in the drainage made by the government to avoid flood.     

The special Adviser made it known that the team will make it a point of duty to go out regularly to caution offenders.

The team today visited Alekunwodo MDS, Igbona and Owode markets all in the State Capital Osogbo.

Also on  the Entourage were the permanent secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Temitope Oladele, the general manager Osun Waste Management Agency Mr. Femi Ogunbamiwo, iyaloja general, Alhaja Awawu Asindemade among others.
