ACOMIN BEGINS ERADICATION OF MALARIA IN SELECTED LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN OSUN

A group known as Civil Society for Malaria Control Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN), working on the Prevention, Mitigation, Promotion of Immunization and better Nutrition with the support from Global Fund through Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has started project on accountability and advocacy project on Eradication of malaria in Osun State.

The ACOMIN State Chairman, Mr Aremu Steven made this known at the advocacy visits made to local governments areas in Osun such as, Boripe, Osogbo, Ife-East, Ife North and Ede-North local governments.

He stated that the purpose of the visit was to re-evaluate the effectiveness of the on-going malaria prevention program and to ascertain whether the previously identified issues/challenges has been adequately taken care off, adding that it intend to hold the stakeholders accountable for their stewardship with the community engagement, involvement and participation process which fast-tracked the effort of the state government in the renovation of some of the Primary HealthCare Centers in Osun state.

Mr Aremu added that ACOMIN has partnered the governments at the grassroot, adding that some of the local government chairmen in the state has pledged their support to ensure that needed items such as availability of adequate drugs, and conducive environment in all the health care facilities within the local government areas are in place, while further pledging to ensure that other challenges will be adequately looked into.

The ACOMIN Chairman, appreciated the local government chairmen for their support in ensuring adequate health care provison for the people at the grassroot area, while also commending the state government under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola for being a health conscious government via provision of necessary amenities towards healthy living.

The State Program Officer, Mr David Amoto Segun at the advocacy stated that the first selected five local governments areas in Osun which is the first batch of the program, will be followed with advocacy to other local governments in the state for the benefit of all, and for total eradication of malaria in Osun.

Similarly, the State Malaria Program officer, Mrs Adeyanju commended  the activities of the Community Based Organizations, partners in the advocacy and accountability project, while charging them to keep up the community development work, adding that teamwork, constant follow up, information dissemination and sensitization and usage of malaria drugs as prescribed is needed to ensure total Eradication of malaria in all the local governments in Osun.

Stakeholders at the advocacy campaign included the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) team and the Community Accountability Team (CAT) among others.
