Salam, Bello know fate on Sept 2, as Tribunal delivers judgement

After months of legal fireworks since the commencement of National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, the court has set aside September 2, 2019, for judgment in the petition of Rt. Hon. Adejare Bello of APC challenging the declaration of his former political associate, Hon. Bamidele Salam of PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the seat of House of Representatives for Ede federal constituency in the last general elections.

The Tribunal gave September 2 as the judgment day yesterday after both parties submitted their final written address at the Osun State National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo, the State capital, where the petitioner sought the cancellation of the units where there was alleged over-voting. He also sought to be declared the winner of the said election.

Salam, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 46, 944 votes during the February 2019 National Assembly election to defeat Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured a total of 44, 866 votes.

Salam is currently representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo federal constituency at the House of Representatives in Abuja.

Since the notice of judgment was put out, social media has been awash with messages of reassurance by supporters of the two gladiators.

The court is also expected to give judgment on the Obokun State Constituency election between Olatunbosin Oyintiloye (Petitioner) of APC and Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi (Respondent/Winner) of PDP and also that of Ede North State constituency between Daud Akinloye (Petitioner), APC against and Hon. Adewumi Babajide Kofoworola (Respondent/Winner) of PDP.
