Osun state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has reaffirmed that he has no anointed candidate, disclosing that he was not ready to endorse anyone for the September 22 gubernatorial election in the state.

Aregbesola made this known in Iwo on Friday during the sensitisation tour of the party to Iwo, Ola Oluwa, Ayedire local government which constitute Iwo federal Constituency.

Before this claim, some quarters believe that Governor Aregbesola had annointed his incumbent Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, a nephew to Aregbesola’s political godfather, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

But addressing the party faithful, Aregbesola denied this insinuation, maintaining that he had no favoured candidate and that he would not annoint any to succeed him.

Despite this declaration by the governor, stakeholders of Iwo federal constituency still urged Aregbesola to do everything humanly possible and ensure the APC flag bearer emerged from the Osun West Senatorial district.

The stakeholders also warned the governor against anything that could make the zone to be seriously marginalized.

While pleading on behalf of the stakeholders , the Asiwaju of Iwoland, Barr Gbadegesin Adedeji argued that governors are known to influence who succeed them therefore asking Aregbesola to ensure his successor emerged from Osun West Senatorial District.

In his response, Aregbesola told the mammoth crowd that there would be a free, fair and credible primary election to pick who would be the flag bearer of the party adding that the outcome of the primary election should not be allowed to divide and disturb the peace and progress of the party but rather unite the party to become more stronger and indivisible entity.

According to him, “every party member is free to support any aspirant of choice, but after the party’s candidate is picked through a credible primary, every member of the party must support that candidate to the extent that the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state would be convincingly won by the All Progressives Congress”.

While speaking, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Osun, Prince Adegboyega Famodun enjoined all members of the party to return to their local government council area, wards and polling units to mobilize, canvass and convince voters to join the progressive train.

He said they should make use of any of the developmental achievements of Aregbesola-led government to campaign to people to vote APC.
