LagosLGpolls: 10 parties step down

LagosLGpolls: 10 parties step down at Ambode’s ward ON Scores of electorate in Lagos state that trooped out to cast their vote in Saturday’s local government election were stunned after some of political parties that had flooded the state with posters started asked their candidate to step down. Vanguard investigation revealed that at the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, ward, only two of the 12 political parties contested the poll; they were All Progressives Congress, APC and Labour Party. Also in Eredo and Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, announced that its candidate will not be contesting the poll in the state. Also in Ojo Local Government, Iba and Oto-Awori LCDAs, eight political parties also backed out from the poll. It was gathered that some of the political parties cited brilliant performance of the State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and his wife, Bolanle. ..Ambode reacts over withdrawal Reacting over the withdrawal, Ambode, who defied downpour to cast his vote at Ward A6, unit 33 in Ogunmodede College, Papa, Epe Local Government, where he was the 12th electorate cast his vote, said that he was not aware of their withdrawal. He said: “There are 12 parties contesting today but in this particular ward, maybe the PDP candidate must have withdrawn. I do not know. What is important to me is to vote for my own candidate which is APC but if it happens that other candidates are not contesting in this ward maybe it’s a reflection of what we are doing.”
